Tomorrow Izzy turns 14. Our tax day baby is no longer a baby, or a kid, but is now a young adult. She has come into this role with grace and courage. This year she has surprised us all by announcing that she wanted to go on a school trip to Europe for 15 days! We were all surprised, but super excited for her and her future adventure. She has embraced this goal by raising almost half the money needed already. She has worked at a concession stand, babysat, cleaned and organized for people, sold candy and sugared up all of her cousins, taken care of people's dogs and has been gifted many donations. We are so proud of her and all of her hard work. You can still find Izzy in her room reading most of the time. She is a person that thrives on routine. She has packed the same thing for lunch this entire school year (12 crackers, 2 pieces of cheese, tomatoes, and some sort of fruit). She comes home from school each day and diligently finishes homework, eats a snack (orange juice and chocolate covered raisins) does her "jobs" and makes time for herself to enjoy reading. In the evenings she is happy to watch some Jimmy Fallon with her mom and sister, but she also really loves watching CBS Sunday Morning news that has been recorded previously. She loves stories; stories in books, stories from people, and stories in the format of feel-good television interviews or human interest stories. She is so interested in learning new things about people. She is and always has been an observer.
She has also continued to play the violin this year, trying to further her expertise with some additional lessons. It is amazing that she taught herself over zoom last year, and has now been able to get pretty good. She even taught herself "Happy Birthday" to play for Papa for his birthday. She is an excellent student committed to doing the best that she can and impressing her parents with her constant stream of A's. She loves spending time with friends and cousins. She went on her first solo-friend trip this spring break with her friend Caroline, she has been friends with her since they were 2.5. Her Grammy has been giving her "driving lessons" in the cemetery and apparently she has gotten quite good. I am sure these will come in handy when she starts driver's training in 9 short months!
Izzy has the sweetest heart and has so much empathy. We are so proud of her and the awesome young lady that she has become. We can't wait to see what this year brings, and how she changes and morphs into herself. We love you Isa! Happy trip around the sun! May your days be filled with imagination and your nights be filled with great books to read!
